How Pflugerville began
A plowman’s town
In 1849 German immigrant Henry Pfluger Sr. brought his family to the blackland prairie northeast of Austin and settled near Gilleland Creek. Other German families followed, and the farming community that grew up around them took the family’s name.
Early wooden buildings went up along Main Street and Pecan Street, many built by Conrad Pfluger, one of Henry’s eight sons. The town stayed small for generations, with only a few hundred residents for much of the 1900s, before growth from Austin and Round Rock reached it in the 1980s and turned Pflugerville into one of the fastest growing communities in the state.
How to say it: the P is silent, so locals say FLOO ger ville. And the German heritage shows up everywhere, from Deutschen Pfest to the Pfun Run.

Things to do
Why people love living here
Lake Pflugerville
The city’s 180 acre reservoir doubles as a park, with a 3 mile loop trail, fishing piers, a swimming beach and room for kayaks and paddleboards. The trail has little shade, so go early on summer days.
Pfluger Park and Gilleland Creek
One of the city’s largest parks, with shaded trails along Gilleland Creek and room for the city’s biggest celebration each fall.
Typhoon Texas
A large outdoor water park in Pflugerville, a favorite way to spend a hot summer day with kids.
Stone Hill Town Center
Shopping, dining and a Cinemark movie theater near the SH 130 and SH 45 interchange, with more everyday retail along Pflugerville Parkway and Kelly Lane.
Blackhawk Golf Club
An 18 hole course on Kelly Lane that takes public tee times, set at the heart of the Blackhawk neighborhood.
Old downtown
The original town along Main Street and Pecan Street, where Pflugerville’s earliest buildings still give a sense of the old farming community.
